Roll Up Roll Up it’s Wangfujing
Come see and shop and eat,
Thousands come from far and near
Strange creatures they will meet
Hawkers hook in audience
To market mutant treats
Mutilated and disfigured delights,
Come masticate the mystery meats.
Slurp up a slice of slimy snake
Catch a cricket in your teeth
Crunch on cockroach candy
Unwrap it from its sheath.
Shuffling from stall to stall,
The interns first, so cautious,
But some determined to dare and try,
And others reluctant and nauseas
The rotten stench of tofu
Impaled lizards and oozing hearts
Indulge in some giant frog cake,
Or some gooey dog liver tarts
A sinister starter of scorpion,
Spaghetti centipedes for main
Jess outdone us with her desert
Gulping down tarantula. Insane.
A freak show like none other,
The twisted circus of Beijing
Not your average Sunday afternoon.
“Roll up, Roll up, it’s Wangfujing!!”
